EU Commission President Names Landmark Methanol Vessel “Laura Mærsk”

14 September 2023

The 2,100 TEU (twenty-foot-equivalent) feeder vessel, Laura Maersk is an important step toward the long-term objective of gradually renewing the entire Maersk fleet to operate solely on green fuels. Maersk has 24 additional methanol vessels on order for delivery between 2024 and 2027 and a policy to only order new, owned vessels that come with a green fuel option.

26 January 2024, Press releases

“Ane Mærsk” is the first of Maersk's 18 large methanol-enabled vessels, that will be delivered between 2024 and 2025. It is the world's second methanol-enabled container vessel.

Laura Maersk uses approximately 15,000 tons of sustainable methanol per year, and New Fuel A/S has been granted permission to produce the bio-methanol that the new container ship will operate on. New Fuel A/S also supplied Ane Maersk.
